This Halloween activity kit includes readings and activities for all four levels of Latin based on authentic Latin texts.  Latin 1 reads the modified haunted house story from Pliny; Latin 2 reads a slightly modified version of Petronius' werewolf; Latin 3 reads Lycaeon's transformation into a wolf from Ovid's Metamorphoses and Latin 4/AP Latin reads Aeneas Goes to Hell - selected passages from Aeneid 6 including the underworld's entrance, and the descriptions of Charon and Cerberus.  Each text is accompanied by a magic list and questions designed to engage students with the text in active, interesting ways.  The Ovid and Vergil texts also include Reading Coaches which ask students targeted questions to help them develop the skill sets they need to read more fluently and translate literally with accuracy.  Also included are two fully developed classroom games with instructions for setting up the games and playing them.  Monster Bingus gives students 36 mythological monsters from which to choose in filling the squares on the Bingus Boards.  The Underworld Game teaches about the realm of the dead by asking multiple choice underworld trivia questions throughout this double-board board game.  Students travel along the Underworld path until they are sent to Tartarus.  The game is deliberately designed so that once students land in Tartarus, it is difficult to get out again.  The games can also be played at a Latin Club Halloween event.  Suggestions for pacing are included - this activity book can provide a single day of Halloween fun, or up to three or four days of more in-depth focus.  It is recommended that you purchase the CD or the digital download in order to be able to set up the games properly.
